Our Nearby Galaxy Sample

The EMPIRE sample consists of nine well-resolved disk galaxies drawn from the HERA CO-Line Extragalactic Survey. They were chosen to be CO-bright, have star forming disk galaxies that can yield high-quality dense gas maps, and close enough sources so that the 30m single-dish beam (~30" at 90 GHz) could recover physical scales of 1-2 kpc. Moreover, the sample is large enough to cover a broad range of physical conditions, while offering distinct morphological and dynamical features.
